Local hydro power station

All hydro power station projects have several specifics. All projects are various, because the water-course and hydro engineering structure are different. Principle is the same everywhere. Power is produced by generator which is moved by water turbine. There are tens of types of turbines. The type must be chosen carefully as it influences effectivity of the power station. In the case of proper choice the hydro power station can reach 90% effectivity.

Local hydro power stations are usually built on smaller streams and rivers, where the current changes significantly in dependence on season. In contrast with large hydro power station it must go without dams which provide constant reservoir of water. Local power station projects must be prepared with carefully with regards to surrounding eco system and other conditions. Well projected and built hydro power station are very ecological and economically very profitable projects.

For example: The total output of power station with Kaplan turbine with 3 meters fall and 1m3/s flowage can reach 25 kwe. If the power station works in average on 80 % of installed power during the most of the year (let’s say 5000 hours) it will produce around 100 MWh of electric power.

Exact economic prognosis and budgets depends on purchase price (donated by government for ecological production) and on the price of the hydro power station itself. Economic prognosis is also very dependent on weather- especially precipitation.
